About the Artist

Thomas P. Dupell - Tom has been working with wood for over thirteen years and opened his own workshop in 2001. In his Canterbury, New Hampshire shop he handcrafts fine Shaker Oval Boxes and Custom Furniture. using quality woods, and utilizing traditional techniques formed by the Shaker community.

Tom hand selects the rough Cherry and Birdseye Maple boards for the best representation of the woods. The wood is then re-sawn into usable pieces that he is able to work with. Using his handcrafted templates he selects and cuts each piece into the size box it is best fit for.

The fingers on each box are hand carved, with precise care. Each piece is finished , by hand rubbing tongue oil onto them. The painted boxes each have several coats of a natural based milk paint. The timeless elegance and style of our finely crafted Shaker Oval Boxes can be treasured for generations.
